Starving Artist

Recently I was thinking what would happen if I quit one of my jobs and just focused on the youth programs I’m working on. I would struggle more financially but I would be putting ten times more energy into a passion. Doing what I love.

That brought me to the term starving artist and the different views I’ve heard on it. Is the starving artist the one never settling for any job outside of his/her field? An artist who will not go outside of his/her beliefs and passions for money? The one standing on top of his/her car preaching, protesting for, or performing their work until the message is told and clear? The artist that will put every last penny and effort into their work even if it means not having access to other things? Or is the term just as subjective as art alone?

What is your definition?

Part of me

Never identified as a poet, just a writer of a few lines you call poetry. Of short stories never exposed but admired from afar. Of complicated love letters to her never to be sent. Of quotes later replaced by actions through youth achievement. Of long dramatic scenes wanted via email.  Of the peace sign broken down into three words. Of the redefinition to many titles blindly accepted. Of this to be continued. Of too many ofs. Just a writer of my own name, direction and existence passed onto paper.

slowly crawling out of my cave

So I’ve been MIA on here due to new goals, heartbreak, and a slight new addiction to tumblr.  I thought I would basically spend the whole winter in my cave and heal. Then I remembered how much writing on here and reading other articles from this site was a release for me. The reason I signed up for this site. So I’m back on here in Debbie Allen’s dramatic voice to Relax, Relate, and Release! :)
